CASUAL GALLERY ATTENDANT

Canberra Contemporary is looking for Casual Gallery Attendants to help us bring to life a range of ‘public facing’ events and programs throughout the year. This is a customer facing role, supporting:

  • Exhibition openings

  • Bar and drinks service

  • Events and public programs

  • General Front of House administration

  • Gallery invigilation

Gallery Attendants work alongside other Canberra Contemporary staff to ensure galleries function to create the best possible audience and stakeholder experience. They are responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, tidiness and professional presentation of Canberra Contemporary’s public-facing areas.

Gallery Attendants are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of gallery and office protocols; the capacity to effectively communicate ideas and liaise with colleagues, patrons and the general public. They must be articulate, reliable and professional.

Gallery Attendants work both in a group environment (during openings and events) and unsupervised (working solo in the gallery on Saturdays/Sundays, or as directed).

WAGE: Base hourly rate $32.31 per hour, plus superannuation and Sunday penalty rates.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Casual.
Hours will be offered casually throughout the year, and days and times will vary depending on the event or program. Includes evening and weekend shifts. Minimum 3 hours per shift.

LOCATION: The position is based at Canberra Contemporary with some occasional offsite work required at our satellite space, Platform. Canberra Contemporary is located at 44 Queen Elizabeth Terrace, Parkes ACT (office and exhibition space), and Platform is located at 19 Furneaux Street, Forrest ACT (exhibition space).

DAYS AND HOURS: Most frequently available shifts are bar shifts on Friday evenings during exhibition openings, (5pm – 8pm), which occur every 2-3 months at our main exhibition space (44 Queen Elizabeth Terrace). We intermittently have gallery invigilation shifts on weekdays and weekends (11am to 5pm) sometimes at our satellite space Platform – depending on programming. Occasionally there may be shifts for venue hire events and public programs.
