Ellis Hutch, Helen Michaelsen and Mona Oren have been working across Australia and the world for two years now. The project is cutting-edge because despite living in different cities (Queanbeyan, Perth and Paris),they have combined creative forces, defeating the distance between them. After two meetings in Northern Thailand in 2010 and 2011, ideas came together and v.o.i.d. came to life.
These video works of site specific performances were created at the Mae Kuang Dam in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This both natural and man-made environment became the fertile setting for the three different artists to stage experimental inquests into what happens when one goes into the void, that place that is empty. It is about the staging of human interaction with the world and space we live in. What it means to exist and what it means to act. This multi-disciplinary work goes beyond the orthodox. It is multi-dimensional,it explores different ideas, not of one artist, but of all three. Although v.o.i.d. forms a whole work, each artist brings their own to the table, making it a dynamic and multi-layered experience. (Ellis Hutch, Helen Michaelsen, Mona Oren, August 2012)
