Artist Statement: This body of work attempts to examine and evoke the perception of the exotic. Initiated by the complicated and often contradictory sense of place that I experience as an Australian settler, these paintings explore the manner in which the visual forms of natural history illustration, ornamentation and painting have informed the perception of the “other” in Australian.
